Itinerary:

Monday 29th August, 2016

Everyone will arrive this morning. We will settle into our rooms in the lovely Eden Roc Hotel in Sant Feliu.  Anyone arriving early will have the opportunity to take advantage of the hotel's spa facilities, perhaps choosing an Ayuverdic treatment with the resident specialist or going for a swim in the heated indoor pool.

We will meet for lunch in the hotel restaurant.

After lunch we will take a stroll around the village, taking a tour around its ancient monastery, busy harbour and colourful side streets.

We will then return to the hotel for a knitting workshop followed by dinner in the hotel. After dinner we will chill out with a further knit-along in the lounge.

Guests are welcome to work on their own projects or to try their hands at the project offered as part of their itinerary. A welcome package will be presented to each guest featuring the materials required for the holiday project, details of which will be provided nearer to the time.

Tuesday 30th August, 2016

In the morning, after breakfast, we will travel to the ancient, fortified village of Peratallada to walk along its medieval streets and savour its unique history.

Catalonia is famous for its numerous fortified hill towns, badges of honour from the many interesting times that its people have lived through, and Peratallada is unquestionably one of the very prettiest villages of all.

It's a wonderful place for photography enthusiasts, where the long-gone past seems to linger on in the ancient stones and around every corner there's something quirky and quaint to admire. If you'd like to read a little more about the place you can check out a photo-post that Bonny wrote on the village here: Peratallada: the village that time forgot ...

After lunch in Peratallada (which is not included in the cost of the holiday) we will return to our hotel, where we will carry on with another knitting workshop on the terrace. Bonny will be on hand to provide support and encouragement.

Dinner will be in the hotel, and, in the evening guests can carry on with their projects with another knit-along in the lounge, or take the air on a moonlit stroll around the harbour.

Wednesday 31st August, 2016

After breakfast we travel to the regional capital, the beautiful walled city of Girona, where we will spend the day walking in the footsteps of the Romans and the Moors, exploring the old Jewish district, the ancient city walls and taking a tour through the great Cathedral of Santa Maria and its famous treasury of priceless artefacts, which include the exquisite Creation Tapestry, sewn in the second half of 11th century.

If you'd like to take a virtual tour of the city walls, Bonny has written a photo post about them here: High on the ancient City Walls of Girona; and you can also read her re-telling of the legend of Girona's stone witch here: The Stone Witch of Girona.

Along the way we will visit some of the many craft shops that carry on business in Girona. There will be free time for shopping, and visiting some of the other museums and galleries not included in the group itinerary. We will have lunch (which is not included in the cost of the holiday) in the city.

After a full day exploring this lovely city we will return to the hotel for dinner and a post-prandial knit-along - for those who still have the energy.

Thursday 1st September, 2016

After breakfast we will travel to Figueres, where we will visit the theatre museum created by the late, great Salvador Dali, as a gallery for his work. Dali was born in Figueres. During his childhood the old theatre in town was a sad wreck. It had been destroyed during the dark days of the Spanish Civil War, and, as was the case throughout much of Spain, it was left to moulder through want of funds until Dali came up with the idea of converting it into a gallery for his work. The Mayor and the town council saw the tourist-pulling potential and Dali was allowed to develop the building in his own flamboyant style. Today it is the most visited museum in all of Catalonia, attracting more visitors than that of his great rival, Picasso, down in Barcelona. I'm sure that's a statistic that Dali, a consummate self-publicist, would have cherished.

On our return to base we'll have our last knitting workshop and after dinner in the hotel we'll have our final after-dinner knit-along.

Friday 2nd September, 2016

After breakfast in the hotel we say our Good-byes and take our hotel transfers to the airport for the journey home.

Please get in contact (using the contact box on the sidebar) to make a reservation.
