Monday 22nd October, 2018

We will settle into our rooms in the lovely Eden Roc Hotel in Sant Feliu.  Anyone arriving early will have the opportunity to take advantage of the hotel's spa facilities, perhaps choosing an Ayurvedic treatment with the resident specialist or going for a swim in the heated indoor pool. Alternatively guests might like to potter down to the village to discover for themselves its ancient monastery - allegedly founded by Charlemagne himself - its bustling port and busy shopping streets.

We will meet in the late afternoon for our first workshop followed by dinner in the hotel. After dinner we will chill out with a further knit-along in the hotel lounge.

Guests are welcome to work on their own projects or to try their hands at the project offered as part of the holiday. A welcome package will be presented to each guest featuring the yarns required for the holiday project, details of which will be provided nearer to the time.

Tuesday 23rd October, 2018

After breakfast we will travel to the ancient town of Pals, which slowly grew up around its 9th century castle. Set on Mont Aspre, high above the rich, arable plains of the Baix Empordà, we'll explore winding cobbled streets, ancient watch towers and craft shops filled with ceramics and local produce.

This region is famous for its rice: the celebrated arroz de Pals is the star ingredient in the paellas for which the region is renowned. The story goes that they've been cultivating rice hereabouts since the 15th century. Rice was said to have been introduced to this part of Spain by the Arabs of Valencia.

In addition to which they're also quite serious about their chocolate - xocolata.

After lunch in Pals (which is not included in the cost of the holiday) we will return to our hotel, where we will carry on with another knitting workshop on the terrace. Bonny will be on hand to provide support and encouragement.

Dinner will be in the hotel, and, in the evening guests can carry on with their projects with another knit-along in the lounge, or take the air on a moonlit stroll around the harbour.

Wednesday 24th October, 2018

After breakfast we travel to the regional capital, the beautiful walled city of Girona, where we will spend the day walking in the footsteps of the Romans and the Moors, exploring the old Jewish district, the ancient city walls and taking a tour through the great Cathedral of Santa Maria and its famous treasury of priceless artefacts, which include the exquisite Creation Tapestry, sewn in the second half of 11th century. We will also visit the Art History Museum, housed in the old Bishop's Palace and the ancient Basilica of Sant Feliu. And then we'll go for a walk around the ancient walls that have been besieged so many times that Girona is often referred to as the City of the Sieges.

If you'd like to take a virtual tour of the city walls, Bonny has written a photo post about them here: High on the ancient City Walls of Girona; and you can also read her re-telling of the legend of Girona's stone witch here: The Stone Witch of Girona.

Along the way we will visit some of the many craft shops that carry on business in Girona. There will be free time for shopping, and visiting some of the other museums and galleries not included in the group itinerary. We will have lunch (which is not included in the cost of the holiday) in the city.

After a full day exploring this lovely city we will return to the hotel for dinner and a post-prandial knit-along - for those who still have the energy.

Thursday 25th October, 2018

After breakfast we will travel to the ancient splendour that is Sant Pere de Rodes.

According to the legends this is where they took the remains of Saint Peter, the father of the Western Church, after Rome was sacked by the Visigoths in 410 A.D. Rome had fallen to the heathen hordes and the elders of the church wanted to protect their treasures so there was an exodus of precious things such as the mortal remains of the saints, the Relics and the Holy Grail.

We'll tour the monastery and the little abandoned town that grew up alongside it during the middle ages.

After lunch in the monastery (which is not included in the cost of the holiday) we will return to our hotel, where we will carry on with another knitting workshop on the terrace.

Dinner will be in the hotel, and, in the evening guests can carry on with their projects with another knit-along in the lounge.

Friday 26th October, 2018

After breakfast in the hotel we say our good-byes and take our hotel transfers to the airport for the journey home.
